Defendant claimed it fired its apprentice lineman, Mike Mathis, on the grounds he had been arrested on a charge of domestic violence, arising out of an altercation with the mother of one of his children. The jury found Mathis’ race was a cause of his discharge. The total compensatory damages were $388,000.00. In answering a special interrogatory, the jury found Defendant was liable for punitive damages but could not agree on an amount. Attorneys for Plaintiff were Jim Waide and Rachel M. Pierce.
